Triplets are an essential part of producing interesting and dynamic rhythms in music. I will show you how to do triplets in Logic Pro in the score editor and piano roll.

What is the Triplet note symbol?

Knowing what the triplet note symbol looks like is essential when using the score editor in Logic.

It is a bracket with a "3" in the middle. The bracket encompasses the three notes that form the triplet grouping.

How Do You Notate Triplets

Notating triplets in Logic is done using the "Score Editor" and drawing them in using the piano roll.

  1. Create a MIDI Region
  2. Open the Score Editor ("N")
  3. In the 'Part Box' select the Triplet note
  4. Draw in the triplets where you want them to be in the score editor

How Do You Do Triplets in Piano Roll

Creating triplets in the piano roll in Logic is just a case of using the brush tool to draw them in.

  1. Create a MIDI Region
  2. Open the Piano Roll ("P")
  3. Select the "Brush Tool"
  4. Select "1/8 Triplet (1/12th)" From the "Time Quantize" dropdown menu

Triplets in Logic

I use triplets to create more interesting rhythms. They provide an added element of interest and create an "exotic" feeling to every simple rhythm they adorn. I love triplets and the fact that is it so easy to create them in Logic makes it even more tempting to use them all the time.
